About

The Gender Garden is a showcase of work by transgender & gender diverse artists from across Naarm (Melbourne). Together, their art forms a modern Garden of Earthly Delights, where the natural and otherworldly coalesce into something strange yet beautiful.
The apocryphal narrative that transgender people are somehow unnatural could not be farther from the truth. We have existed since time immemorial, and our roots run deep.
The Garden is an imagined sanctuary for the 'natural unnatural', a magical place outside of space and time. In The Garden, creatures take many forms, love grows like grass, and binary gender is nothing but a distant memory.
Featured artists were asked to submit works (either existing or new) based around this prompt, exploring the natural world, history, and folklore through a distinctly transgender lens.
